REVIEW SECTION

Keeps the comments coming, we love to hear how the market is blessing you!

  • I loved the blueberry yogurt from Thomas Creamery, it was tasty without being too sweet and a little bit of it filled me up. I also thoroughly enjoyed the spelt bread from Westwind Milling Co.
  • Please tell the farmers at Fallen Oak that I roasted their chicken yesterday, and it was so delicious! My mother and brother were over for dinner, and we all thought it was just super. I will definitely be getting more of their chickens!

What To Do With

What to do with turnips.
Carving your turnip for Halloween? Turnips were the original Jack O’ Lantern. Pumpkins didn’t enter the picture until the settlers here in the New World discovered that pumpkins worked much better. The Irish started the turnip tradition to scare Jack of the lantern away as well as evil spirits. Just hollow out your turnip , add a face , a candle and let it stand guard on your porch. You go first and let me know how it went. I’ll make the soup.

Young Chickens First Tomato

Garden produce that is not fit to sell is often food for the chickens. They are often fussy eaters and will snub their noses to some things and devour others. Some of the younger chickens have not yet learned to fully learned to appreciate tomatoes. They can be big red and they roll.
As I walk by the young chickens they all get excited and run along their movable pens waiting for me to throw something to them. Last week they got tomatoes for the first time. They ran to the tomatoes that splashed and dug right in. Not all the tomatoes smashed, some of them rolled a little. They still ran to those ones and took a bite. When the bit the tomato it rolled back at them as in self defense. The young chickens JUMPED HIGH and ran. With hesitation they attacked the tomato again, ran away from the tomato unsure of the new food several times until the tomato tired out and stopped rolling.
